The article focuses on a study which reported the establishment and partial characterisation of a human fibrosarcoma cell line derived from a pediatric patient's tumour. A histologically diagnosed fibrosarcoma biopsy specimen was received in January I983. The patient was a 4-year-old male with a primitive embryonal sarcoma of the tongue that had recurred after surgery. The tumour was judged to be resistant to irradiation. The fresh biopsy tissue was disaggregated mechanically into very small clumps with sterile forceps and scissors. Partial characterisation of fibrosarcoma cell line suggests that it is composed of malignant cells. The cell line shows resistance to adriamycin in semi-solid agar assay and responds to epidermal growth factor by increased DNA synthesis, as measured by thymidine uptake. |
