Abstrakt: The influence of diluents—the anthracene fraction of coal tar, wash oil, and heavy catalytic cracking oil—on two key characteristics of coal tar is considered: its viscosity; and the decrease in its α1 fraction content on centrifugation. The content of the α1 fraction is lower in pitch produced from coal tar purified by centrifugation with added diluents. The pitch yield is greatest when the diluent employed is heavy catalytic cracking oil. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
