Templated electrodeposition is one of the most efficient methods of preparing arrays of one-dimensional nanostructures. In situ methods of studying templates are highly desired to control the deposition process and analyze resulting nanocomposites. For these purposes, an electrochemical approach is promising, but features of modified with porous film electrodes should be determined first. Here we analyze numerically simulated current transients and voltammograms in a redox system not complicated by the formation of a new phase. The transition of internal to external diffusion is shown to be the main feature that leads to the appearance of a local maximum in the dependence of peak-to-peak separation in cyclic voltammetry on the sweep rate. When the diffusion front reaches the template surface, in potentiostatic experiments the slope of the time dependence of inverse square of current changes, this feature can be used for measuring template porosity and diffusion coefficients of ions in the pores.
