"Strange alteration!": The Victorian Milton and a Book Bound in Human Skin.

Abstrakt: The author discusses the binding of the 1852 edition of John Milton's poetry collection "The Poetical Works of John Milton," with the tanned skin of the late George Cudmore. Topics explored include the execution of Cudmore in 1830 and dissection of his body at the Devon and Exeter Hospital, the acknowledgment of the said Victorian Milton edition in studies of anthropodermic bibliopegy, and the possible association between Milton and Cudmore.
