Abstrakt: If you've done a good job of tightening or compressing your seam with each roller rotation as you load the backing fabric, by the time it's snug across the frame your backing should look smooth all the way across. If you absolutely must load the backing fabric with a vertical seam wrapping around the roller, it helps to press the seam open rather than to one side. You should use this process with all seams that wrap around the roller (even the quilt top!) If you still see ridges, unroll the backing fabric and start again, exerting a bit more pressure on the seam as you twist it tightly on the roller. [Extracted from the article]
