Abstrakt: Integrating the differentiated knowledge, skills, and experiences of its members is critical to the functioning of an organization. Hence, interactions spanning formal organizational and informal social boundaries are a key focus of organizational scholarship. We theorize that curiosity--which can be piqued by cues in the organizational environment--heightens individuals' motivation to network across boundaries in organizations by promoting the drive to learn novel ideas, solutions, and opportunities. A randomized-control-trial field experiment involving over 2,200 middle-managers in a North American financial services organization supported our predictions, and an additional experiment substantiated the drive to learn as the underlying causal mechanism.
