(B) Under HPE-treated conditions, HPE increases the active form of NRF2, via unknown mechanisms, and decreases cell susceptibility to oxidative stress, thereby delaying cellular senescence and possibly improving skin aging. These findings imply that chronic HPE-treated NHDFs, under oxidative stress conditions, delay cellular senescence by mitigating oxidative stress via upregulation of the NRF2-mediated antioxidant pathway (Figure 5), suggesting that chronic HPE treatment might ameliorate skin-aging-associated damage in vivo.
