Studies of losses of ac electric machines with coils based on second-generation high-temperature superconductor (HTS) have been carried out. The ac losses (losses) were experimentally studied using a single HTS coil and, then, using an assembled magnetic system with several coils with a common magnetic circuit, which is an annular winding of the stator of an electric machine. The losses for a rotor installed inside the stator were further studied. In this case, each HTS coil is in the external magnetic field, while the rotor is static in one experiment and driven by an external electric motor in another; i.e., the test facility operates in the generator mode. In all the experiments, the current was purely sinusoidal (and slightly distorted by the third harmonic in the generator mode). The losses were numerically studied by the finite element method in a stack of HTS tapes when alternating current flows in it in the presence of both external alternating and constant magnetic fields. The presence of this model is important for better prediction of ac losses in HTS devices. The results of measurements and simulations of losses are qualitatively compared for some operating modes with a purely sinusoidal current. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
