Abstrakt: A computerized tomography (CT) scan in hospitals and medical clinics produces a colossal amount of medical images every day, which are used for different purposes such as surgical, disease diagnostics, and research. Therefore, high-quality compression of CT scan images is necessary for storing, managing, and transferring. However, one of the disadvantages of the image compression process is that it requires time, so this paper proposed using the method to accelerate fractal image compression. It is based on using some features of the moment that process the domain blocks. The results of tests conducted on CT scan images (256 pixels, resolution 24 bits/pixel) image showed a minimum encoding time of 0.55 sec with appropriate PSNR 28.33. The reduction in ET is about 19% for CT scan images. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
