The pollution of the atmosphere and the subsequent dire ramifications of emissions on the planet are prominent issues that the vast majority of people do not dispute, and a problem the scientific community is trying to mitigate. This paper presents a review of the regulations that the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has imposed for the reduction of air pollution and the various methods that have been developed for measuring the emissions of ships. Besides we propose an Internet of Ships concept that suggests the creation of a shipping network with the use of LPWAN technologies like LoRa for communications that operate automatically and collect data on air and marine pollution as well as marine geophysical measurements. Subsequently, we will examine how such a concept can be developed and what benefits can be procured in the process of environmental improvement by collecting such data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
