Abstrakt: Layered β-Ni(OH)2 and walnut-like β-Ni(OH)2/polypyrrole (PPy) microsphere with different pyrrole contents (10, 30, 50, 100, 200 µL) were prepared and applied for oxygen evolution reaction (OER). A group of electrochemical tests showed that the OER performance of β-Ni(OH)2/PPy hybrid was the best when the amount of pyrrole content was 50 µL with the Cdl being 2.31 mF cm−2, the electrochemical surface area (ECSA) being 57.75 cm2, the overpotential being 461 mV, and the Tafel slope being 89 mV dec−1. In addition, β-Ni(OH)2/PPy (50 µL) exhibited the higher TOF, lower Rct, and better stability as compared to other as-prepared composites. These results illustrate that PPy can effectively improve the electrical conductivity of β-Ni(OH)2 material and prevent the aggregation of β-Ni(OH)2/PPy composite, which leads to more exposed active sites and facilitates the electronic transmission of OER. Therefore, the combination of the two as a catalyst has a good development prospect for water splitting. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
