Abstrakt: The article presents an investigation attempted to identify pre-treatment test correlates of length of hospital stay for schizophrenic patients in approximately the middle third of the prognostic range. Using certain standard psychological tests, prognostic variables were sought for prognosis in general; for each of five different treatment modalities; for each sex; and for each sex within each treatment. The choice of sex as a possibly pertinent variable was suggested by the clinical observation that male and female schizophrenic patients tend to present rather dissimilar patterns of attitudes, symptoms and expectancies and so might differ in their acceptance of and response to a specific treatment.
