In the early hours of 28 June 1969, police violently raided the Stonewall Inn and roughly hauled employees and patrons outside before being met with resistance from members of the community who had enough and started to fight back. From a very early age, Mark recognised that the treatment of LGBTQ+ people and other minorities was "wrong" - with members of the community being "invisible" in society: "When I say "invisible", no one was out of the closet.
