Abstrakt: The dynamic of ice formations plays an important role in natural and technogenic processes at the Arctic region. One of its forms is the ice island, that can be used as a platform at the stage of local geophysical surveys. This article is devoted to the investigation of thermodynamic and mechanical phenomena occurred in it. The joint problem is numerically solved using the method of splitting by physical processes. At the initial stage the geometry of the ice formation is calculated by the solution of the Stefan problem. The Pismen–Rekford numerical scheme is used to solve the two-dimensional quasilinear heat equation. Temperature distributions and boundary positions at different months are estimated for Barents Sea conditions. These data are later used to simulate dynamic processes occurred in the ice under the external load. The grid-characteristic method on structured curvilinear grids is applied. The strength of the ice formation is calculated based on the Mises criterion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
