Systematic studies on the biology, ecology, phenology and control of the pine processionary moth (Thaumetopoea pityocampa) have been conducted in the Forest Research Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in Sofia since 1956. Biological material was collected and analysed not only in Bulgaria but also in different regions of the worldwide range of the pest. 114 scientific papers were published in scientific journals and proceedings during the period of study.
