By switching to slide film and taking a more expansive view of railroading, Springer helped portray the industry's colorful early diesel era in a part of the country few other photographers were covering at the time. Features In 1950, Fred Springer received a pass valid for 10 days in August, to ride in the cab of any Denver & Rio Grande Western locomotive anywhere on the system.
