This perspective applies not only to the history of modern Europe but also to Europe's earlier historical periods of Antiquity, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance. Without denying the universalist vision of history, the EU's strategy assumes a modern version of Eurocentrism which it implements in its cultural policies. I Eurocentrism i - or the tendency to conceive world history from the perspective of Europe's seminal role in the creation of Modernity - has been subjected to serious doubt by several contemporary theorists.
