This study examines AUPHA undergraduate program certification reviews conducted from 2016 through 2019 that found programs not achieving a "fully met" outcome on certification criteria falling under the domain of "program evaluation and improvement." Twenty-eight certification review reports were analyzed to determine the frequency of programs achieving a "fully met" designation versus "partially met" or "not met" on each of the three program evaluation and improvement criteria. A qualitative content analysis of the reports identified underlying themes in the certification review teams' findings to elucidate the reasons for partially met/not met criteria outcome(s) for the program evaluation and improvement criteria. Three underlying themes were identified. The results should benefit undergraduate programs in understanding common pitfalls in program evaluation and improvement processes, and can assist AUPHA as it continues to improve and enhance its certification review process and reviewer training.
