Abstrakt: Caffeine in concentrations above 75 × 10-4 M completely inhibits conidial growth of the ascomycete Ophiostoma multiannulatum. In agreement with previous observations in other organisms a partial reversal of this inhibition was obtained with equimolar concentrations of adenine. Since it was shown that tryptophane, aniline, and procaine are also able to counteract the caffeine inhibition, this inhibition must not necessarily be due to a competition between caffeine and purine metabolites for purine specific enzymes.
