Abstrakt: Features TUCKED INTO THE BOTTOMLANDS and bluffs of northeastern Missouri and west-central Illinois is a landscape of rivers and railroads. QUINCY, ILLINOIS Southwest of Chicago by 250 miles, the city of Quincy cascades down 100 feet from the Illinois prairie in terraces of brick buildings to the Mississippi River's east bank. Norfolk Southern train No. 148 from Kansas City, Mo., to Decatur, Ill., exits the Hannibal, Mo., tunnel and will cross the BNSF Railway K Line and then the Mississippi River on Dec. 21, 2021. The early morning sun casts long shadows across the Mississippi River at Hannibal, Mo., as four BNSF Railway locomotives lead a unit train of covered hoppers west on Dec. 22, 2021.
