Abstrakt: This research has investigated the conversion of waste banana peel fibers (WBP) as raw material into biopolymer films to replace synthetic plastics. The WBP with glycerol was blended via mixing and heating method, was prepared by casting with different glycerol concentrations (0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 wt%) of glycerol. It was named G0, G1, G2, G3, and G4. SEM and EDX analyzed the coating films. The addition of glycerol in the composite improved the compatibility between the matrix and glycerol. The result shows that the morphology of the films was affected by different grams of glycerol. Less coarse grains were observed in thin films with 5 wt% glycerol (G1). Moreover, the surface of the banana peel matrix with 5 wt% glycerol is clear and smooth without defects. These figures show the surface morphology of the banana peel powder had an irregular and rough surface. In conclusion, the addition of glycerol to SEM micrograph images offers a good dispersion and adhesion between WBP fiber and glycerol. WBP powder added glycerol to form composite film seems to be a potential and new biomaterial for agricultural applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
