Construction projects are running very rapidly throughout the world. Construction projects are suffered from many challenges like delay, quality standards and cost overrun. Cost overrun has been a very common issue nowadays particularly in building projects. The objective of this paper is to find out the causes of budget overrun in building projects and their possible measures. This work is based on a questionnaire survey to collect the data. A questionnaire was given to the key project participants; contractors, clients and consultants, to rank the causes of budget overrun in building projects based on view of survey respondents. Out of 200 questionnaires distributed, only 176 were received. The gathered data of questionnaire survey was analyzed using Average Index method. This research work has justified the causes of budget overrun in building projects of Pakistan. This study has determine total 08 main causes of cost overrun in building projects such as fluctuation in prices of raw materials, poor pre estimation of project, unstable cost of manufactured material, rapid change in construction orders by client, poor contractors experience, high cost of labor, scarcity of raw materials, lengthy process of bureaucracy in government entities This research will help to determine the critical factors responsible for budget overrun in building projects and their possible remedial measures to overcome these factors. The results of this study motivate construction stakeholders to concentrate on problems of budget overrun in building projects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
