Background: Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is an important investigating modality for evaluation of various brain pathologies in children with motor developmental delay. The purpose of this study was to characterize and localize these morphological abnormalities and to study the prevalence of abnormalities of the brain in study group in the Gwaliorregion, India. Material and Methods: A prospective observational study of MRI of the Brain in 61 pediatric patients presenting with motor developmental delay in J.A Group of Hospitals, Gwalior for a period of 1 year. Results: Among various etiologies, most common cause was found to be hypoxic ischemic insult followed by metabolic causes as etiology. The most common finding on MRI brain is involvement of deep white matter followed by deep nuclei involvement. Conclusion: Motor developmental delay presents with a wide spectrum of etiologies, clinical findings and MRI features ranging from completely normal to abnormal. This study could establish the various morphological appearances of developmental delay on MRI in pediatric population and further categorize them into various subgroups paving way for treating clinicians to plan proper management and parent counseling.
