After her early success in Italian films in the 1950s, and several years before she starred in I Two Women i , Loren received a contract from Paramount that launched her American film career. This heartening short documentary, directed by Ross Kauffman and produced by Kulik's daughter Regina K. Scully, reveals the ways in which Italian movies, and in particular those starring Sophia Loren, have had a profound effect on the daughter of Italian immigrants. Both women hail from the Mezzogiorno; Kulik's parents came from Calabria ("Naples on down"), and Sophia Loren, born Sofia Scicolone, was raised in Pozzuoli, a small town outside Naples.
