Acrosorium yendoi Yamada (Delesseriaceae, Ceramiales) and Lukinia dissecta Perestenko (Phyllophoraceae, Gigartinales) are found in a laboratory marine aquarium containing water and substratum from Avachinskiy Gulf (Eastern Kamchatka). These algae are previously unknown from the region. L. dissecta has only been recorded from Sakhalin and the Kuril and Commander Islands. Its occurrence in waters of southeastern Kamchatka considerably extends the distribution area of the species, which was earlier thought to be disjunctive and exclusively insular. Obviously, it should be recognized that L. dissecta has a continuous and extended distribution range and it is not only confined to islands. A. yendoi was previously known from Russian waters of the Sea of Japan, as well as from Japan, China, and Korea. This is the first record of occurrence of this species near Eastern Kamchatka, extending the species range to the north and changing its phytogeographic characteristics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
