The characterization of improjective operators in terms of quotient maps and the characterization of indecomposable spaces in terms of improjective operators were studied by P. Aiena and M. González. In this paper, we extend these characterizations to the case of improjective linear relations. Furthermore, we apply the obtained results to give a sufficient condition for the product of two linear relations to be improjective. Finally, we give an application to one-dimensional transport equation. Concretely we apply our results to study the stability of the Fredholm spectrum of the inverse of the streaming operator T 0 under commutating improjective linear relation perturbations.
