Abstrakt: For example, by focusing on the tension between ecophobic and ecophilic discourses (as postulated by Simon Estok) about the Antarctic, Moriarty finds some surprising similarities and differences between the genres. Moriarty stays closer to her corpus in this section, and her discussions clearly illustrate the variety of ways in which the Antarctic has been depicted within these subgenres. The one genre that resists this ideology of exploitation is that of animal stories, which Moriarty refers to as "nothing short of revolutionary" (185) in the context of Antarctic literature for children.
