The article focuses on rural medicine in India. The dedication of health workers assigned to these remote areas is commendable. Well-prepared doctors, male and female, health visitors, midwives, and para-medical technicians are bringing improved health services to rural villages. Indigenous dresser, the traditional health workers of rural India, still esteemed by most villagers, are being trained to provide better services in conjunction with the basic health team. Throughout the clinic period, the health visitor and four student auxiliary nurse midwives from a training center 50 miles north, slipped noiselessly about the rooms. changing dressings, keeping records, clarifying explanations for doctors and patients, and performing the myriad of tasks common to all nurses in out-patient clinics throughout the world. |
