After exploring the definition of ethics through an etymological study and semantic analysis, this article analyses the role and importance of ethics applied to the professional world. It offers insights into what is produced through such reflective and collective processes. Going beyond the idea of practical wisdom, so dear to Ricoeur, ethics is approached here as offering a particular form of professional engagement, which is de-liberated and based on situated, shared values.
