Abstrakt: The article discusses validity of cures associated with mineral springs and establishment of balneology as an empirical science. It notes transformation of the imagination from an active and independent mental process to a passive and receptive mode of thinking in France in seventeenth century and its effects on mind-body connection. It presents views for mineral springs and the power of the imagination according to several authors including Michel de Montaigne, Rene Descartes, and Jean Racine.
