Slashing Coal Use in China and India Is the Key to Reaching Carbon Neutrality - But It Could Take Decades According to Richie ([15]), the United States and the European Union together are responsible for just under 50 percent of CO SB 2 sb emissions over the past two centuries, while a little over 16 percent is attributable to China and India combined. During the decade from 2009 to 2019, China and India significantly increased their emissions, respectively by 31.1 percent and 37.4 percent, though China's have plateaued over the past few years.
