Structural styles and basement architecture of the Dahomey basin southwestern Nigeria from aeromagnetic data.

Abstrakt: The structural configuration and basement architecture of the Dahomey Basin Southwestern Nigeria were investigated in this study using geophysical attributes extracted from high-resolution aeromagnetic (HRAM) data. The aeromagnetic data was reduced to the equator (RTE), followed by the application of structural enhancement filters including first vertical derivative (FVD), tilt derivative (TDR), analytical signal (AS), and horizontal gradient magnitude of upward continuation to 10 km (HGM_UC) to better characterize the basement morphology and tectonic framework of the basin. Depth to magnetic basement and sedimentary thickness were determined using spectral analysis (SA) and source parameter imaging (SPI) methods. Data interpretation results revealed the presence of shallow and deep-seated linear features trending in the NNE-SSW, NE-SW, NW–SE, and WNW-ESE directions. The modeled 2D profiles depicted a horst-graben architecture and rugose basement block pattern. Estimated depth to anomalous sources showed variations in sediment thicknesses across the basin. SA results yielded an average depth of 1.5 km and 5.2 km for shallow and deeper sources, while the SPI depth estimates ranged from 4.5 to 6.3 km in the mapped mini-basins located offshore of the study area.
