Abstrakt: Electromotive force measurements are used to study the activity of oxygen in nickel melts during their deoxidation with Mg/Ca (up to 0.2 wt %) in a high-purity argon atmosphere, and the changes in a[O] in accordance with the deoxidizer concentrations are described by logarithmic dependences. A substantial increase in the deoxidizing capacity of Mg and Ca as compared to that of Al is demonstrated for a deoxidizer concentration of 0.05 wt % in a metal. The morphology and composition of nonmetallic inclusions in the metal after deoxidation are studied; complex configurations of nonmetallic inclusions 2–100 μm in size, which are arranged at grain boundaries, are demonstrated.
