This paper aims to develop a bone segmentation code by using specific medical image processing algorithms to extract the bone tissue of the patient's hip joint from CT scans, to determine the patient's medical condition. The code was developed by using the Python language associated with Visual Studio Code as an editor. The development of a specific code that read the DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) datasets of patient's with degenerative hip diseases, healthy or even patient's DICOM datasets after hip replacement surgery, generically called THR (Total Hip Replacement) was possible by using the VTK library. The CT scans are displayed in MPR (Multiplanar) view, but also in 3D view after the threshold algorithm extracts the bone tissue from the medical data read by the code. The code can be used for didactic purposes, as a tool, for teaching students in medicine, future orthopedic surgeons, but also for students that study biomechanical engineering, the bone segmentation process in THR and virtual preoperative planning.
