With the advent of fascism, thousands of anti-fascists left Italy to exile in France where they rebuilt their political organizations, trade unions, newspapers, workers' cooperatives and even a publishing house. The exile in France represented a long period of political commitment and collaboration with French socialists and communists. Their support and solidarity have been decisive for spreading the values of anti-fascism among French public opinion and Italian immigrants. Exiles and emigrant women also contributed to anti-fascist actions in France although they had been overlooked by histography. This article seeks to highlight their contribution giving them an identity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
