Abstrakt: Important products for industry and everyday life like tires, are made from natural rubber (NR) in large quantities. Although NR is biodegradable, the addition of numerous chemicals and the vulcanization process itself limit or prevent its degradability and recyclability. The problem is exacerbated by synthetic rubbers with similar structures that are produced in large quantities. Herein, biotechnological and chemical approaches to modification of NR are compiled and the prospects for applications in a circular economy are briefly presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
