Abstrakt: A field experiment on 'Studies on flowering behaviour and its management through chemicals in sugarcane' was conducted at V.C. Farm, Mandya during 2019-20. The experiment was laid out in randomised complete block design and replicated thrice. The treatments comprised of four chemicals with two concentrations (Ethrel at 250 and 500 ppm, Paraquat at 0.25 and 0.50 kg a.i. ha-1, Cycocel at 100 and 200 ppm and maleic hydrazideat 50 and 100 ppm) sprayed at flower primordial initiation (FPI) and 15 days after first spray, with holding irrigation during FPI and control. Significantly higher cane girth (3.51 cm) was recorded with application of cycocel at 200 ppm at FPI and 15 days after first spray. Lower flower primordial length (2.51 cm) and flowering percentage (4.61 %) was recorded in paraquat at 0.50 kg a.i. ha-1, followed by ethrel at 500 ppm (7.92 %) at FPI and 15 days after first spray, significantly higher number of internodes (21.53) was recorded in application of ethrel at 250 ppm applied at FPI and 15 days after first spray. Higher cane yield (142.68 t ha-1) and higher CCS (18.58 t ha-1) were recorded in ethrel at 250 ppm. The higher gross returns (Rs.386235 ha-1), net returns (Rs.150986 ha-1) and B: C ratio (1.64) were observed in spraying of MH at 50 ppm at FPI and 15 days after first spray. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
