THE present study was based on data from the records of the Vigneshwara Biotech firm and 20 farmers cultivating tissue culture banana plantlets (TCBPs) collected through personal interview method. The data were analysed using annual compound growth rates, seasonal indices, standard cost and revenue concepts and break-even analysis. The results of the study revealed that the firm was established with an initial investment of 82 lakhs. The production and sale of TCBPs were increased at 6.28 and 7.15 per cent, respectively during the study period from 2015-16 to 2019-20. The indices of production and sales were more than 100 during 2017-18 and 2018-19, while the highest monthly indices (133.33 %) was observed during June and August. The firm incurred a total expenditure of Rs.546712 with 65 per cent variable cost of Rs.355742. In the total expense of Rs.248351, raw material cost accounted for lion share (71.44 %). The firm earned annual net returns of Rs.42.98 lakhs with Rs.1.77 net returns per rupee of expenditure indicating economic viability of TCBPs production. The firm is operating in the profit making zone with 118 lakhs of TCBPs sales compared to 34.98 lakhs of break-even point. Higher yield levels (80 %), suitable for all seasons (75 %), uniform harvesting period (60 %) and higher net income (60 %) were the major reasons reported for cultivating TCBPs in the study area. Study revealed the existence of scope of economic and stable business through improved labour efficiency, reducing the cost of production and reducing the contamination losses.
