I propose in this article a subjective, passionate and rigorous analysis of the main project of Grupo Cultural Balé das Iyabás entitled as Vivências do Balé – Protagonismos de Preta, which was developed between 2013 and 2017 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Balé das Iyabás formed by Ludmila Almeida and Sinara Rúbia is a collective initiative that aims to debate and reflect on female agency in Brazil's current context with the main focus being on black women's experience. Vivências was a space for continuous dialogue and production dedicated to legitimizing knowledges of thinking-feeling. The project involved a mixture of interdisciplinary practices including Afro-Brazilian dance and mythological storytelling from Candomblé, one of Brazil's religions with African roots. These practices aimed to confront multiple forms of violence in the everyday lives of Brazilian racialized women. I will be looking at forms of collective knowledge-making based on my own participation in Vivências during 2015 and 2016. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
