The typology of groundwater chemistry is determined by various factors. The petrographic properties of rocks in saturated and unsaturated zones as well as regional hydrodynamic and hydrological conditions are considered to be the main natural factors that influence along with groundwater composition. The purpose of this study is to determine the distribution of rock lithology and the suitability of the relationship between rock lithology and groundwater chemistry in Jeunib basin, Aceh. For this, nine well bore samples were collected and analyzed on their rock lithology and chemical typology. This study conducted a chemical analysis of groundwater using ionic compounds to determine the chemical typology of groundwater using the Piper diagram and the Stiff diagram by applying the ion compounds of K+, Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Cl−, HCO3−, and SO4−. The results show that geologically the study location is an area located in three types of geological formations, namely the Idi Formation, Young Alluvium, and the Olim Volcano. Furthermore, based on the distribution of outcrops, the Jeunib groundwater basin (GWB) can be grouped into four rock units consisting of agglomerate units, weathered andesite units, tuff units, and alluvial units. The groundwater aquifer at the research area is in an alluvium unit with a typology of coastal alluvial sediment aquifer system with a confined aquifer of Ca-HCO3 and Mg-SO4 facies. Based on the interpretation, the Jeunib Basin groundwater is generally located in the alkaline earth water facies with higher alkaline content predominantly hydrocarbonate. The results of the hydrochemical analysis show that the study area has a fairly low Cl element but has an abundant HCO3 ion content. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
