The present study was carried out to provide more information about proteins in uterine secretions in the camelus dromedarius. Camel ovaries, blood samples and uterine secretions from 50 sexually mature non-pregnant camels (C. dromedarius) were collected at slaughter. The total protein values of uterine secretions were determined by Lowry method and electrophoresis of proteins on polyacrylamide gel was carried out. Significant fractions of camel uterine proteins were determined. Standard molecular weight comparison revealed that the major protein in uterine fluid had a relative molecular weight of 70 KD and could be albumin. The nearly 30 KD band could be uteroferin and 13-14 KD band corresponded with 14 KD basic polypeptide of a member of plasmin/trypsin inhibitors. On the other hand, the nearly 44 and 23 KD bands were luteal-stage specific. Interestingly the nearly 23 KD luteal phase specific band in this study corresponds with the range of progesterone dependent retinol binding acidic proteins. Although camel uterine proteins are shown to be irrelevant of serum steroids, but the presence of two luteal phase specific bands showed that proteins in uterine secretions may change when the corpus luteum present.
