Thyroid function post laryngectomy and hemithyroidectomy – Do all laryngectomy patients need thyroid replacement?

Abstrakt: Thyroid gland function Thyroid function was assessed using thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and free T4 (FT4) levels using chemiluminescence microparticle immunoassay (Abbott Diagnostics, Abbott Park, Illinois). All 27 patients with biochemical evidence of hypothyroidism were started on thyroxine, whereas 31 (73.8%) out of 42 patients with biochemical evidence of subclinical hypothyroidism received thyroxine replacement.
