SARS-CoV-2 infection has a wide variance in its clinical presentation from asymptomatic cases through interstitial pneumonia to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and multisystem organ failure failure. Death ensues in patients with a genetic predisposition who develop a systemic inflammatory response. With the increase in the number of infected individuals grows the number of reported disease complications attributed to the effect of the virus on other organs and systems or the administered therapy. Often identifying the underlying mechanism is challenging. The direct effect of the virus is associated with damage to different cell types – endothelial cells (with resulting vascular thrombosis, incl. pulmonary embolism and stroke), as well as bowel epithelium, heart, liver, kidney, and pancreatic damage. Non-inflammatory lung complications include pneumomediastinum and pneumothorax. We describe several cases of unusual complications of the disease and their computer tomographic (CT) imaging findings.
