The Ort-Iki Puppet and Street Theater has existed as an amateur group since 1989. The group is named after a Siberian mythological figure, the Earth Protector. They follow the traditions of theater, street and fair puppetry, primarily adapting and transforming folk tales, medieval dramatic relics and mythological stories. In recognition of their work, they were awarded the title of Outstanding Artistic Ensemble in 1993, a diploma from UNIMA in 1996, and a Pierrot Award at the VIDOR (Cheerful) Festival in 2014. The author of this article speaks with the two founding members of the company, Judit Új and Zoltán Dió, about the history of the ensemble, their performances, their professional ideas and aspirations.
