Abstrakt: Among the most poorly known species of mouse deer is the Philippine mouse deer ( I Tragulus nigricans i ), also known as "Pilandok". Keywords: Balabac Islands; chevrotains; hunting; Palawan; threatened; ungulates. Finally, local authorities must recognise that the mouse deer population is highly disjunct and natural exchange of remaining populations is impossible; therefore, each population of the species is prone to extinction if conservation actions are not taken. More recently, to strengthen the protection of mouse deer, the Municipality of Balabac has created an ordinance (Ordinance No. 07 series of 2019) declaring the Philippine mouse deer as their "flagship" species.
