The article cites a study, which analyzes wound healing of human skin by transplanting it on to the nude mouse. It has been established that nude mice maintain lifetime skin grafts from a wide variety of mammals, including man and from birds. These grafts of heterologous skin on to nude mice retain all the morphological and ultrastructural features associated with normal skin. The study also tries to determine whether human skin was able to heal after transplantation and describes the healing process by the use of immunolustological methods. The study concluded that human skin transplanted on to the nude mouse is able to heal and to reconstruct a human epidermis a basement membrane with human immunological characteristics and probably also a human neo-dermis. |
