Conclusions Although Sydenham chorea can be a severe debilitating sequelae of group A streptococcal infection, medication combined with an inpatient rehabilitation course benefitted this patient and allowed her to regain full functional resolution and independence. Sydenham chorea was diagnosed and confirmed with a positive throat culture for group A I Streptococcus i and high anti-streptolysin O titers. Although it is a clinical diagnosis, positive throat cultures for group A I Streptococcus i species and elevated anti-streptolysin O titers aided in the diagnosis. [Extracted from the article] |
