Banana plant provides highly nutritional and medicinal valued fruit, flower, central core stem as food and more economic value. However, during banana cultivation famers face problems with insect pests, which cause heavy economic losses throughout the world. The present study is concerned with the monitoring and management aspects of the most important pseudostem weevil (Odoiporus longicollis) of banana plants. In this review, the importance of maintaining hygienic garden, use of trapping techniques, planting weevil resistant cultivars, application of botanical pesticides and biological control agents (fungus and nematode) to manage the banana pseudostem weevils are given. This review concludes that the use of light-emitting diode (LED) and banana pseudostem traps with entomopathogenic fungi can be used for the successful monitoring as well as control of the banana pseudostem weevil in the field without affecting the environment.
