In Doncaster local artists have taken over vacant units and in Bournemouth the closed Debenhams has reopened as Bobbies (its original name) with independ ent shops, a gallery and a food hall for dogs! We therefore have a crisis of big retail rather than a crisis of the high street. This paper starts with a sad story illustrated by two pictures of poplar High Street in London.
