This work reports synthesis steps and characterization of nano precipitated silica from geothermal sludge, which is a waste of geothermal power plants. Silica was extracted and precipitated from the sludge using a sol-precipitation method. The nanoparticle geothermal silica (NGS) was then characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), x-ray fluorescence (XRF), and x-ray diffraction (XRD) analyzer. The FTIR spectra show vibration in 1076 and 690 cm−1 that refers to siloxane bond, 950 cm−1 refers to silanol bond, 3450 and 1635 cm−1 refers to water adsorbed in silica, and zinc oxide surface. The result is identical compared to the commercial silica. XRF test result showed the increase of silica concentration up to 99.00 percent while the content of impurities is reduced. The XRD also confirms that the silica obtained from the method has an amorphous structure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
